Is an Adrenaline Cocktail Right for You?

Do you experience a drop in energy between 3-5 p.m.? Do you find yourself craving caffeinated beverages or sugary foods for a quick boost, only to face another crash soon after? Your adrenal glands might need some support.
A popular remedy you might come across is the adrenal cocktail, which typically includes orange juice, cream of tartar, and sea salt. This refreshing mix provides vitamin C and other minerals that support adrenal health. However, if you have diabetes or are pre-diabetic, orange juice may not be ideal. According to a 2021 analysis of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data, 40% of U.S. adults aged 18 to 44 are insulin-resistant. (Learn more about insulin resistance here.)
With a family history of diabetes and personal experience with insulin resistance, I understand the need for appropriate support. The Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire is a simple tool that can help determine if your adrenal health needs additional support.

For those concerned about blood sugar levels, I recommend this modified adrenal cocktail:
Adrenal Cocktail Recipe
Ingredients:
8 oz. coconut water
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Optional:
1 scoop of unflavored collagen powder
Juice of 1/2 lime or lemon for extra vitamin C
1-2 tablespoons unsweetened coconut cream
Instructions:
Blend all ingredients on high until smooth, about 60 seconds.
Strain through a metal strainer.
Voila! you have a refreshing "cocktail". Enjoy your healthy cocktail and celebrate your adrenal health!

Caution: If you are a fast oxidizer, an adrenal cocktail might not be the best option for supporting your adrenal health. Learn more about the Hair Tissue Mineral Test here!
