Rediscovering Wellness: My Journey with Psoriasis

For years, psoriasis felt like an all-consuming force in my life, impacting not just my skin but my mental, relational, and spiritual well-being. Despite numerous visits to doctors and a reliance on various steroid creams, the cycle seemed endless—an attempt to manage symptoms rather than address the root cause.

I hoped modern medicine would offer a solution, but every time I stopped using the steroid creams, my psoriasis would return. My body craved more than just a bandaid fix; it needed a holistic approach to healing.



Determined to understand and overcome this challenge, I dove headfirst into research. I immersed myself in countless YouTube channels, read numerous articles and books, and turned my own body into a testing ground. I experimented with a strict diet regimen, losing 12 pounds in three months only to gain 15 pounds in a month. The stress I put on my body was intense, but it taught me valuable lessons.

I discovered that managing stress—both emotional and physical—was crucial. Unfortunately, I underestimated this part at the beginning of my healing journey. I began listening more to my body’s needs, incorporating naps and synchronizing my exercise with my menstrual cycle, particularly during my luteal phase. (I am a huge fan of Dr. Mindy Pelz and Dr. Stacy Sims) This focus on hormonal balance, especially for women over 40, became a game-changer for me.


Keeping daily food and mood journals allowed me to tune into what truly supported my well-being. To deepen my understanding, I enrolled in nutritional therapy school, exploring the profound connection between autoimmune diseases and overall health. I learned that diet and gut health were just the beginning; true healing requires a balance of physical, mental, and spiritual wellness.


The journey has been transformative. Embracing this holistic approach and respecting the natural balance of the body has become a passionate pursuit. The process of discovering how the body can heal itself, when nurtured and respected, is awe-inspiring.

Aug. 2024 I still have patches, but they look a lot better! I don't bleed anymore. I can wear shorts in summertime. Yay!


Although 7-15 min of brief doctor visits couldn't address everything, I found that it is my responsibility to practice patience and self-love in nourishing both my body and soul. My ongoing journey in understanding nutrition and wellness has shown me that finding the root cause of disease and treating the whole person is the key to true healing.
