Why Eating the Same Foods Daily Might Be Hurting Your Gut (And How to Fix It!)

Sticking to the same food every day might seem convenient—trust me, I used to have tuna salad for lunch almost every day! It was efficient and easy, saving me from meal planning headaches. But as I dove deeper into nutrition, I realized that a monotonous diet isn’t doing your gut any favors.
Think of your gut as a vibrant garden, filled with all kinds of greens, flowers, and trees. Ideally, a healthy gut should resemble this diverse garden. Just as different plants require various nutrients from different soils, your gut needs a variety of foods to nourish the diverse community of good bacteria living there.

When you feed your gut the same foods day in and day out, some beneficial bacteria can’t get the nutrients they need and may eventually die off. (So long, good bacteria that could help with my psoriasis!)
After a food sensitivity test, I learned that some of my daily staples, like pork, were actually causing inflammation. I had assumed that pork was good food for me since it made me feel energized after eating.

Unfortunately, many of us fall into the trap of eating a limited range of foods due to our chaotic lifestyles. (learn more here; What is America Eating?) Preparing diverse meal plans might seem like an added chore, but your gut will thank you for it. Prioritizing a varied diet supports your health and keeps your gut flourishing.
So, shake up your meals and give your gut the rich variety it craves. It’s a small change that can make a big difference in your overall health and well-being.
